[8:18]  1 tn The meaning of the Hebrew term is primarily emotional: “to pity,” which in context implies an action, as in being moved by pity in order to spare them from the horror of their punishment.

[16:6]  2 tc The translation reflects the Hebrew text, which repeats the statement, perhaps for emphasis. However, a few medieval Hebrew manuscripts, the Old Greek, and the Syriac do not include the repetition. The statement could have been accidentally repeated or the second occurrence could have been accidentally omitted. Based on the available evidence it is difficult to know which is more likely.

[17:22]  3 sn The language is analogous to messianic imagery in Isa 11:1; Zech 3:8; 6:4 although the technical terminology is not the same.

[17:22]  4 tc The LXX lacks “and plant it.”

[22:18]  5 tn For similar imagery, see Isa 1:21-26; Jer 6:27-30.

[23:24]  6 tn Heb “come against.”

[23:24]  7 tn This is the only occurrence of this term in the OT. The precise meaning is uncertain.

[23:24]  8 tn Heb “an assembly of peoples.”

[23:24]  9 tn Heb “I will place before them judgment.”

[25:13]  10 tn Heb “and I will cut off from her man and beast.”

[25:13]  11 tn Heb “fall.”

[28:26]  12 sn This promise was given in Lev 25:18-19.
